Okay, that’s it. It took me a while to write this posting — a couple of weeks after seeing “Star Trek: Beyond”. But yeah, it’s over. Star Trek isn’t Star Trek anymore. It has become an action flick. It is beyond all depth, beyond all subtext, beyond all the humanity it stood for.
Don’t get me wrong — Star Trek: Beyond can be a fun action flick — if you have never seen Star Trek TOS, TNG or DS9 (all others don’t exist). But it’s not about depth anymore. And yeah, I just rewatched “Star Trek VIII: First Contact”. That was pretty much the last real Star Trek movie. The rest — fun, but like cotton candy.

Personally, I’m just disappointed — but thankfully, I’ve got TOS, TNG, DS9 and VI and VIII to revisit that universe.
So, RIP Star Trek.
P.S.: Actually, Star Trek has turned into Star Wars. Just look at this Rogue One Trailer (Star Wars). If you have seen Star Trek (first movie of the reboot) or the Trailer to Beyond, you recognize the music, but it’s also the tied in action. In a Star Wars universe, the amount of action and lack of thinking makes sense. But it does not fit in Star Trek.
