Warning: Do a backup of your PDFs before you update to macOS Sierra

2016-09-25

Seriously: Before you update your Mac OS, do a backup of all your PDFs. Sierra seems to have a few crippling and infrastructure destroying problems with PDFs.

2016-09-22

A short comment on Heterodox Academy (which supports viewpoint diversity in higher education) and a tangent on creating T-Shirts.

Got another email about a possibly interesting product. If you want to collaborative write on an article at the same time, Authorea might be something for you.

Book Recommendation: “Curse of the High IQ” by Aaron Clarey

2016-09-08

A ... well, self-help book for people with high IQ, without the usual unrealistic ego-stroking of self-help books.

Neonce – an interesting tool for problem-solving in groups

2016-09-08

I got an invitation to have a look at a problem-solving tool for groups. Ostensibly a better way to do brainstorming — a method which I hate with the fire of a thousand suns. And yep, it looks very promising and much, much better than the usual brainstorming sessions in groups.

Some conferences do have codes of conduct or try to introduce them. Personally, I think they are a really bad idea. A few reasons in this posting.

No Ads, No Sponsored Placements

A comment for those seeking to use this site for personal gain: Given the increase in requests, let me be clear. I write on this blog because I want to. It’s my hobby, my playground. Sometimes people point me to interesting products/services and I write about them. But any request regarding ads or sponsored placements ends up the trash without a reply. And if you think something would be of interest, differentiate yourself from the spammers by referring to a posting — in an intelligent way. (I get enough auto-generated mails to identify them immediately.)

BTW, posts can get updated after I published them if I spot spelling errors (not a native speaker) or think a different wording might improve precision and clarity.

Filter Blog Entries & Categories

This blog is not focused on a single topic, or method. As long as it is relevant to improving creativity (or allowing it in the first place), it's fair game. The heterogeneity of the postings can make reading this blog a bit cumbersome, at least if you are only interested in one topic. You can either use the search function (above), or use the categories or the tags to narrow down the postings you see.
