Color Atlas

«I like the way colors taste. Except I don’t like crimsons … or turquoises …especially when they put their heads into their shells and won’t play and when you break their shells to let them out they die …»
Delirium, in «Sandman: The Wake» by Neil Gaiman

I was stumped naming the color of a dress (turned out to be pastel lavender-pink), so I thought it might be nice to have an app that shows colors and lets you guess their names.

After a short conversation with ChatGPT, the result is this color atlas.

It shows you a color …

and once you think you know what it is, you click on the screen to get the name — and some information:

I especially like that ChatGPT determined relevant search terms for each color to find suiting images with Google Images or Brave Images.

You can also do a multiple choice test:

or compare similar colors:

or browse an overview:

As with any AI tool, it might hallucinate at times, but overall, pretty impressive. And I guess a calibrated display would help here.

I put the HTML file here: https://www.organizingcreativity.com/worksheets/color_atlas_offline.html (you can save the page locally, it should work offline).
