Whatever happened to smoking?

One difference between Germany and Japan was the attitude towards smoking. While there are many non-smoking areas in Germany (restaurants, many buildings, most areas in train stations), you can still smoke on the street.

In Tokyo, not so much. Instead you have dedicated smoking areas:

I am no fan of smoking, but isn’t that just sad? Whatever happened to the rebels who smoked a cigarette and did not give a damn? Now it’s «go into the hutch, you silly little rabbit».
