Syspolicyd, Periodically High CPU Load, Reading Huge Amounts of Data, on Mac Big Sur (and likely Catalina as well)

2020-12-02 | Reading time: 2 minutes

After installing Big Sur, I noticed a periodically high CPU load, and later found out that huge amounts of data (2.8 TB, yep, *T*B) were read from the HDD within a short amount of time. Turns out, it's very very likely some unsigned .pkg files from gog.com were to blame.

An UN Controlled Earth makes for really scary Sci-Fi in “The Expanse”

2020-11-23 | Reading time: 1 minute

Fuck Aliens, there is something much, much worse than "In Space No One Can Hear You Scream" — when you scream, and you're just one of millions. A mere statistic.

Confirmation Bias when Doing an Analysis in HCD

2020-11-23 | Reading time: 1 minute

Look, we are all at least somewhat intelligent and creative. And that can be a bane, not a blessing, when you develop something. Because it can bias how you look for new information.

It’s easier to stop in the beginning than later

2020-11-23 | Reading time: 1 minute

Okay, I admit it ... there is a quotation, I am thinking Einstein, but I do not know, about how it is easier to stop in the beginning than when you have actually done a few steps. And I think it might fit well to the current Corona measures.

No Ads, No Sponsored Placements

A comment for those seeking to use this site for personal gain: Given the increase in requests, let me be clear. I write on this blog because I want to. It’s my hobby, my playground. Sometimes people point me to interesting products/services and I write about them. But any request regarding ads or sponsored placements ends up the trash without a reply. And if you think something would be of interest, differentiate yourself from the spammers by referring to a posting — in an intelligent way. (I get enough auto-generated mails to identify them immediately.)

BTW, posts can get updated after I published them if I spot spelling errors (not a native speaker) or think a different wording might improve precision and clarity.

Filter Blog Entries & Categories

This blog is not focused on a single topic, or method. As long as it is relevant to improving creativity (or allowing it in the first place), it's fair game. The heterogeneity of the postings can make reading this blog a bit cumbersome, at least if you are only interested in one topic. You can either use the search function (above), or use the categories or the tags to narrow down the postings you see.
