Gimmick Vending Machines

Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures.

In Japan, there were many stores in Tokyo and Kyoto that have these ball vending machines.

Each is about a particular topic or series or whatever and the gimmicks inside are often keychains or similar small elements.

You simply put in the required amount (usually 300-500 Yen, a few want 1000 Yen), turn a lever and get a ball with the gimmick inside.

While probably more for children, it was nevertheless fun to try them out. Got a few Peanuts (Snoopy) things. And compared to the also frequent «crane games», you at least get what you pay for.

Oh, and BTW, if you ever need to change 1000/5000/10000 Yen notes into 100 Yen coins (for bottle vending machines/laundromats), these places have machines that do that. After all, no one requires you to spend the coins there …

Overall, gimicky stuff, but fun.
