Study instead of Media Center

Get over the idea that only children should spend their time in study. Be a student so long as you still have something to learn, and this will mean all your life.

A while ago, I stumbled upon this beautiful meme:

Meme, source unknown (Note: I already did write about that meme in another context, about three years ago.)

Nothing against watching sports, there are some fun games on YouTube. Added benefit that you can skip the in-game commercials.

But there is something to be said for having a space where you can just focus on reading, on learning. And while the study in the meme above looks «nice», it does not have to be that «nice».

Personally, I used the only nook in my somewhat crappy apartment to turn it into a small study. Does not contain more than a few lights, a whiteboard, a blanket on the wall (some decoration is nice), a rocking chair with in-build leg-rest and a small table. The radiator is a left-over from when the heater did fail. I’ll likely move it somewhere else. On the other hand, it could make it warm and cozy. Perhaps more important what is not in that study … notebook and iPhone … they remain outside. And while I use eInk devices for reading (the backlighting helps at times), they are always offline (I even use an USB-stick to transfer the files).

Somewhat crappy as well, but it works. Closing the curtains and the world is … somewhere else. And all that is left is to focus on reading.

Highly recommended.
