The most essential gift for a good writer is a built-in, shock-proof shit detector.
Ernst Hemingway
I’m currently using rtf files to write postings. Most postings are straightforward and do not warrant a detour via Scrivener. So, giving that I use DEVONthink, it is much quicker to write it there. One thing that helps is a 0template.rtf file that I duplicate before writing a posting. It contains placeholders for all the information I need for a posting and a link to the Hemingway App:
Hemingway App is a website that analyzes your writing. It can determine readability, use of adverbs, passive voice, and complex sentences. In the edit view, it makes suggestions, as shown for the default text below:
Given the link in the rtf (okay, to a local copy of said website) I can quickly open it and copy-paste my text in it.
And edit the writing if I agree with the suggestions (I’m not going to let algorithms tell me how to write, even less what).
Nice way to get some style feedback. Thanks, Hemingway App.
