Recommendation: The ABC’s of Morality

A is for Aesthetic
Whether it’s music, art, writing or dance,
Beauty can send your soul into a trance!
Aesthetics refers to what makes your soul sing.
It’s just what you think makes a beautiful thing.
And even if no one thinks it has merit,
Find your aesthetic, then go out and share it!

Given the so-called «progressive left»’s foray into making sexism and racism socially acceptable again, and even pushing it down the throat of children as if they were fattening foie gras, I was looking for a counterweight on the other side. For a work that promotes libertarian-conservative values.

Well, it seems that «The ABC’s of Morality» by Lauren Southern and George Alexopoulos fills that gap.

I am not sure who the target audience of that book it. It looks like a children’s book, but some of the terms used to explain those ABC’s are … well, way beyond child level. And yeah, if you go by online sources, you will find some very strong opinions against Lauren Southern. As usual, I can only recommend: Don’t go by second-hand reports, listen to the person directly. It’s one of the great things the Internet allows you to do … for the moment. She isn’t exactly hard to find, e.g., on YouTube, with current interviews.

And yeah, that book, hell, it’s a beautifully drawn book with values to live for.

Is it biased? Sure, so are the books on the other side. But frankly, I much prefer a book that promotes traditional values, over those books that spit on Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream, or promote, well, a strange mixture between original sin and outright Neo-Racism/Neo-Sexism.

It’s a strange word today, but, yeah, her book is «wholesome». Especially considering she ties morality to … well, enlightened self-interest. Don’t do evil things, because you promote a culture where such actions might be used against you next (e.g., «Don’t tell a lie with your voice or with text, They might believe it about you next!»). And yeah, I think that’s a much better strategy than to appeal what Heinlein would call a person’s «better nature».

D is for Duty
Freedom can be wonderful, but it will never last.
If people aren’t dutiful, with hearts that are steadfast.
Duty’s what you owe to who you live with and you love.
Like a knight confronting dragons, you must rise above.
Duty’s sort of like your job, but also is the fact
That when you face injustice or are threatened, you will act
In the face of evil, so it can’t lead folks astray.
Keep your honor, do your duty, keep the dark at bay.

E is for Equal Opportunity
Everyone is equal when they’re judged on the same scale:
Praised if they’re successful, and accepting if they fail.
Everyone, both boy and girl, of every race and class
Should live by the same standards that they should strive to surpass.
Don’t try for special treatment for your friends or for your enemies.
If you lose a game that’s fair, you can learn from the memories.
Of what you might have done wrong, and what you can do right,
Which is always better than a rigged and unfair fight!

G is for Groupthink
It’s so easy to accept what those in crowds believe;
But if they are wrong, it means more people who will grieve.
History has told us that folks are often led
To throwing out their reason and trusting mobs instead.
Groupthink is a nasty and quite well-hidden trap:
When you first step in it, you might not feel it snap.
It’s not that it’s wrong to trust in other people
But think for yourself, so you don’t follow them to evil.

S is for Slander
Slander is when someone tells a lie
To cause others shame in the public eye.
Slander is more than a nasty rumor.
It’s meant to destroy, like a wound or a tumor.
And slander can happen to anyone.
Still, when you face it, it never is fun.
Don’t tell a lie with your voice or with text,
They might believe it about you next!

Well worth a look. And a nice example that no matter the public opinion, you can create works that promote your vision.

Kudos.
