Blast from the Past: Stingray

“I guess the difference between you and me is I remember this time. I lived in this time and it’s hard to not want to be part of it again.”
Dax in “Deep Space Nine” – “Trials and Tribble-ations”

I recently watched “Stingray”, a TV series that ran from 1985 to 1987. I only noticed just how old the series was when someone said: “You’re the man for the Eighties.”

Wait, Whut? The 1980s? That series is about 40 years old?

And sure, there are strong hints. No mobile phones, well, what we would consider a mobile phone today. Computers with CRT displays. And the computer graphics.

But other than that … it is still watchable. If you bring a strong suspension of disbelief (and don’t read labels too closely to detect the Lorem Ipsum text). They actually take time to develop a story, not as hectic as series today. And it’s not woke either. Yeah. With one possible exception (Native Indians) it’s about individuals, not groups (Russian spies do not count 😉 ).

Not really recommended, unless you like old series, but still … interesting. A testament to pretty good storytelling.

Oh, and the intro is nice, too:
