Everywhere is walking distance if you have the time.
Steven Wright
There’s something to be said for walking to and from work every day.
I think it’s even better than riding a bike to work, given that you don’t need as much concentration to stay safe. After all, on a bike, everything on the street outclasses you — if there’s an accident, you’ll lose, big time.
When walking, you can retreat into your thoughts, or into a good podcast. And if you have an idea, you can quickly jot it down (e.g., on the smartphone). A few of the podcasts I can currently recommend are:
To learn something:
- The Art of Manliness (great discussion of books)
To broaden the mind:
So, if you have the chance, try out walking to/from work for a while. If it’s too far to walk, get off the bus a station or two early, or if you drive with a car, park away from work.
It’s great to learn something new and/or clear the mind.
