Compliance

Teacher: «It’s true that there are… dangers on the outer planets. So let’s follow up on Borodin’s question. With all the social and medical advancements we can bring to the Independents, why would they fight so hard against us?»
River: «We meddle.»
Teacher: «River?»
River: «People don’t like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don’t run don’t walk we’re in their homes and in their heads and we haven’t the right. We’re meddlesome.»
«Serenity»

Looking at this meme:

yeah, there’s something to it. We are trained for compliance in the modern society. Not only in schools. Heck, colored lightbulbs tell us when to walk and when to stop.

And yeah, part of it is for our safety, but what are the side and long-term effects of living this way, of being conditioned each and every day to follow orders.

Hmmm, I don’t know, but I’m putting a few Heinlein-books on my «to reread» list.
