Once more with foresight — using a Plague

After an outbreak of Bubonic Plague, the University of Cambridge closed its doors for 2 YEARS. Isaac Newton had completed his degree, but his academic career was put on hold. So he retired to a small farmhouse where he developed calculus, optics, and gravitational theory. Some of Newton’s most profound work came from his own quiet period. In the same way… NOW is your opportunity

The quotation above was part of an image of Isaac Newton. I used a different design, but it does make a nice motivator:

Given that the two weeks to flatten the curve now go into their second year, I wonder whether with more foresight, it wouldn’t have been possible to use the time for something similar. Yeah, nobody here is Newton, but still. And hey, given how the handling of Covid is going, there might still be time.

Hmm, at least it’s a more constructive approach to focus on something instead of feeling manipulated by people who want to treat citizens like cattle. After all, I not only dread what will likely continue to happen with an out-of-control government (and media), but also what will happen when parts of society are at the end of their tether. Not sure who wrote it, but yeah, I see the possibility:

The most terrifying force of death comes from the hands of ‹Men who wanted to be left alone›. They know, that the moment they fight back, the lives as they have lived them are over. It is a small form of suicide as they are literally killing off who they used to be. Which is why, when forced to take up violence, these ‹Men who wanted to be left alone› will fight with unholy vengeance against those who murdered their former lives. They fight with raw hate, and a drive that cannot be fathomed by those who play-act at politics and terror. True terror will arrive at the Enemy’s door, and they will scream, cry, and beg for mercy, but it will fall on deaf ears. For these men simply wanted to be left alone.

Not a situation I want to have. So, yeah, let’s go with Newton here:
